For one night only, the Starkville Community Theatre stage will host a performance of its regional-competition-bound one-act play "Underneath the Lintel", onstage at the Playhouse at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28.

In this gripping ghost story, an eccentric librarian (played by Kris Lee) discovers a weather-beaten book in a return bin — 113 years overdue. Sparked by a message left in its margins, he embarks on a magical quest that takes him around the world and 2,000 years into the past. With astonishing twists and turns, "Underneath the Lintel" draws audience members into an unforgettable odyssey via a one-man monologue.
In addition to the hour-long show, audience members can watch as the set is built out and then taken down immediately prior to and immediately following the performance. Per the rules of the festival, traveling shows must be able to house all set items and props inside a 10-foot-by-10-foot "box" and be able to fully erect and strike their sets in 10 minutes on either side of a maximum one-hour performance.
This production is heading to regionals in Lexington, KY in early March, having won Best Production in state competition in January. The show also won two technical awards, Best Director, and Best Actor. Your purchase of a ticket helps support our trip to compete at the next and represent Starkville and the state of Mississippi on a larger stage.
Written by Glen Berger, "Underneath the Lintel" is directed by Paula Mabry, with assistance from Pattye Archer. Additional crew members for the traveling show include Madeline Golden and Thomas La Foe.
This performance is not included as part of any SCT season ticket, and admission is $15 (or $10 for students and active military).
The physical box office will return any voicemails for reservation requests in the weeks ahead, and sales here online will stay "live" until all seats are sold. For any remaining last-minute seats, the office will open on show night at 6 p.m..
