For one night only, the Starkville Community Theatre (SCT) stage will host a performance of "The Belle of Amherst", onstage at the Playhouse at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 10.
Presented by Theatre MSU in partnership with MSU's Community Engaged Learning Program, "The Belle of Amherst" features Emily Dickinson's own original poems, diary entries, and letters that welcome us into her Massachusetts home, where she shares snippets of joy and creation amongst the heartache of an isolated and misunderstood life. Performer Kennedy Miazza, from Biloxi's Center Stage Theatre, has performed this one-woman play over thirty times in the past 40 years across the Southeast, winning numerous accolades including the Mississippi Theatre Association’s and Southeastern Theatre Conference’s Best Actress awards.
Through a generous partnership with Theatre MSU, all proceeds from admission costs will serve as a fundraiser for SCT. This performance is not included as part of any SCT season ticket, and admission is $15.
Tickets for the show are currently available only here online. Starting the week of the show, any remaining seating will also be available by calling the box office at 662.323.6855. The SCT box office will not accept phone reservations until Monday, March 6, so we encourage you to buy online for the best seating options and to ensure that you can get a ticket. For any remaining last-minute seats, the office will open on show night at 6:30 p.m..
"The Belle of Amherst" is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York. Like all programming in SCT's 2022-2023 season, this production is supported in part by funding from the Mississippi Arts Commission, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
